Support an independent investigation of US intelligence capabilities

We urge the Senate and House of Representatives to
take the necessary steps to ENSURE the prompt creation
of an independent investigation into the Iraq
intelligence failures. The Senate report coming out
tomorrow only addresses the role of the intelligence
community, and I believe this isn't enough. Americans
have a right to know how our entire government got it
wrong on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.

For a long time this administration has successfully
convinced Americans that we'd uncover weapons in Iraq
and that Iraq had strong ties to Al Qaeda. A year
after the invasion, we still haven't found weapons,
we've discredited the human intelligence from Iraqi
exiles, and the 9/11 Commission reports that there was
no strong link between Iraq and Al Qaeda.

Instead of giving upfront answers, Bush administration
officials have backtracked, claiming they never said
there was a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda and that
Iraq's weapons programs were as much of a threat as
the actual presence of nuclear, chemical and
biological weapons.

We need to get to the bottom of these blunders. I feel
that the only way to truly make sure this doesn't
happen again is by creating a BLUE_RIBBON independent
commission--not appointed by the White House--that
releases its preliminary findings as soon as possible.
